Experience:

Jan Rieger heads McLane Rieger Communications. For more than 20 years, Jan has been telling clients’ stories to the media, and in turn, to the public.

Rieger decided at 15 that she wanted a career in public relations. She studied journalism at The University of Texas, followed by publishing at Rice University and the workings of Wall Street at The New York Institute of Finance. She served as Assistant Editor of HOUSTON Magazine early in her career.

Jan Rieger Public Relations ConsultantAgency, corporate and non-profit public relations have all been a part of Rieger's career. That's why she understands her clients so well. She worked for the world's largest public relations firm, a huge advertising agency, and as corporate spokesperson for a multi-billion dollar company.

Rieger’s clients over the years have included California’s largest law firm, two international charities, life science companies, a telecom giant, retailers, architects, two of the largest global accounting firms, specialty medical clinics, restaurants, a London-based haute couture millinery designer, a spa, energy and insurance companies, and even a small project for American Express. She has written annual reports, retail catalogs, brochures, newsletters, press releases, articles for several magazines, and for an ‘e-zine.’ Currently, Rieger writes the media blog for San Diego News Network (sdnn.com).

Always active in the community, Rieger serves as President of the San Diego Press Club and writes the Captain’s Log people column for the Press Club’s Foghorn newsletter. She chaired the board of the city’s largest domestic violence program, earned the Bronze Leadership Award from Junior Achievement, and spoke to national leaders of Share Our Strength, an international organization fighting hunger. As part of ANGELCARE Children’s Aid International’s team, she spent two weeks in Guatemala, restoring an abandoned school while sleeping on the floor with spiders in a neighborhood rife with gang violence. She chaired the black-tie Angel Ball for Episcopal Community Services.

Classics For KidsMcLane Rieger supports Classics for Kids, a wonderful non-profit that teaches tens of thousands of San Diego schoolchildren about classical music. Check them out at (www.classics4kids.com)!
